On Friday, President Muhammadu Buhari called with medical doctors On strike across the country to end their strike because Nigerians are in desperate need of their services.
Breaking news – Striking at This Time Isn’t A Good Decision president Buhari Tells Doctors,President Buhari made the announcement while meeting with members of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. He also urged those considering a strike to instead opt for a peaceful resolution of all grievances. According to Mallam Garba Shehu, Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, doctors striking at a time when the country is trying to recover from a pandemic is not a wise option, regardless of the source of the grievances.
Mr. President urged the striking unions to settle their differences through negotiation, no matter how long it takes, and assured them that all outstanding benefits owed to medical doctors would be cleared after verifications, even as he reminded them that his administration has a track record of paying its debts to workers and retirees.
The president was cited as saying, “The lives of citizens who could be lost or endangered if doctors withdraw services are valuable enough to opt for peaceful resolution of issues.”
