Breaking News Sunday Igboho Arrested in Cotonou,a Yoruba activist, has been detained by security forces in Benin Republic’s capital, Cotonou.
Igboho was apprehended late Monday night after fleeing Nigeria to avoid being apprehended by the country’s secret police.
According to a person familiar with his departure from Nigeria, he had finalised arrangements to flee Nigeria via Cotonou and was on his way to Germany.
However, he was apprehended by security forces in a nearby country.
According to a source familiar with the situation,
Sunday Igboho, a Yoruba activist, was apprehended by security forces in Benin Republic’s capital, Cotonou.
Igboho was apprehended late Monday after fleeing Nigeria to avoid being apprehended by the country’s secret police.
He had finalised arrangements to discreetly flee Nigeria through Cotonou and was traveling to Germany, according to a source familiar with his departure from Nigeria.
In the adjacent country, however, he was apprehended by security forces.
Two days prior to the raid, Igboho had organized a “Yoruba nation rally” in Lagos.
Two persons were killed and 12 people were arrested when the DSS stormed the house. Igboho, on the other hand, made it out alive.
Igboho was wanted after the CIA claimed he was stockpiling weapons.
According to a source close to the case,
The source said:
“Sunday Igboho has been arrested in Cotonou. He was arrested about an hour ago. “He was supposed to travel to Germany through Cotonou this night. He wanted to leave Africa through Cotonou. He was arrested by security operatives in Cotonou. “They are planning to bring him back to Nigeria”.
Remember that Igboho was declared wanted by the Department of State Services after its operatives carried out a deadly midnight raid on his home in the Soka area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
A warrant for his arrest had been issued by the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) for crossing Nigerian boundaries.
