The National Youth Service Corps has complained that detainees at Nigerian Correctional Service facilities are fed better than corps members.
FG Budgets ₦1000 Daily Feeding Allowance For Prisoners While Corpers Get ₦650, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, the Director-General of the NYSC, disclosed this during his appearance before the House Committee on Youth Development on Wednesday for budget defense, saying corps members were served a lunch costing N217, 000.
As a result, he encouraged the House of Representatives to increase the feeding budget allocation in the scheme’s budget for 2022.

On October 27, 2021, the Senate Committee on Interior enhanced the Nigerian Correctional Service’s daily meal allocation from N450 per person to a minimum of N1,000 per day.
Officials from the National Civil Service were at the Senate to defend the Service’s 2022 budget, which included a proposal to increase the daily feeding allowance to N750.

Ibrahim, who observed that this was his first time presenting the budget to the committee, stated that the NYSC budget has been constant over the years.

The committee’s Chairman, Yemi Adaramodu, had earlier stated in his opening remarks that the NYSC had overhead expenditures because it was not a revenue-generating institution but one that managed people, particularly young Nigerians.
