Nigeria government declares free train rides nationwide on Friday which will last for one week.

Nigeria’s government has started the free giveaway ride to its citizens for easy movement across the country.
The campaign started on Friday 24, December 2021, and it will last for one week between December 24, – January 4, 2022, as said by Mr. Mahmood Yakub, spokesman for the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC).
Mr. Mahmood Yakub said the free service covers all of the NRC’s standard and narrow gauge services across its network.
Among these are the Abuja-Kaduna train service, the Lagos-Ibadan train service, Warri-Itakpe, Kano-Lagos, Minna-Kaduna, and Aba-Port Harcourt trains.

“The decision, which was made in cooperation with the Ministry of Transportation, is to ease movement of citizens during the yuletide,” said NRC Managing Director Engr. Fidet Okhiria, who also commented about the development.
“This is to assist reduce transportation costs and allow individuals to move around freely over the holiday season.”
“However, passengers are recommended to collect their tickets for free from proper areas in order to gain entrance and board the trains.”
“All passengers are also reminded to follow COVID-19 regulations, which include wearing a face mask and washing and sanitizing their hands.”
