Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff Died In Plane Crash Along with Other Officers,
following an official visit to Kaduna state, the military officials were on their way to Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, Euronews reported.
There was no immediate word on what caused the plane crash, but Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima promised that more information would be released shortly. The identities of the other military officials who died have not been revealed.
On Twitter, the US diplomatic mission in Nigeria described Attahiru’s death as a “terrible loss to Nigeria,” adding, “We join Nigerians in mourning the tragic loss of life from today’s plane crash.”
President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Attahiru to the position earlier this year. The president’s office tweeted photographs of Buhari being briefed on the accident by the country’s defense minister and others.
Buhari tweeted, “All of them are heroes who paid the ultimate price for peace and stability in the land.”
Earlier today President Buhari said i-will-make-sure-that-the-chief-of-army-staff-not-die-in-vain while ensuring that effort will be made to look into the incident.
During his service, the lieutenant general had made a lot of promises to revive the security and improve the military system.
Buhari described the loss and death of the Chief Army as a great loss to the Nigerian military.
