Femi Falana (SAN) the human rights lawyer has claimed that the decision of the federal government of Nigeria to suspend the operation of Twitter by Gen. Muhammed Buhari is in breach of Chapter IV of the 1999 constitution of Nigeria.

The activist further said the suspension of Twitter is going against the freedom of speech enacted by the fundamental human right, denial of freedom of information.

“Chapter IV of the Constitution has been suspended as a result of this legislation. Nigerians would soon have to rely solely on the NTA and the FRCN for information. For upsetting the government, media outlets such as Channels TV and others have been penalized, and they may be outlawed shortly.
“The NBC’s decision to levy fines on media companies based on an illegally altered Broadcasting Code. It’s a dress rehearsal for the government’s impending ban on local media outlets that publish whatever the government deems derogatory or seditious.
“As a result of what happened to Twitter, other news organizations such as CNN, BBC, and Al Jazeera will be suspended as well.”
